About WASTS:
While we are not changing the basic principles of our discipline, we are emphasizing the real nature of our profession - so everyone will come to understand that there is more to what we do than gears and gas or wood and computers.
Our President met with the National Association of Trade and Industrial Education and determined a new name would better represent the membership of the organization. This unified organization will help us increase participation in the representative groups, concentrate our resources, and develop mutually beneficial programs that will ultimately serve more educators across the state.
In June 2007, elected officials from T&I met to decide how to bring about a better awareness of our organizations programs. The initial plan was to develop the organization, with a new name and with a new web site that will speak more effectively for all educators represented by the organization.
The implementation of Perkins IV and the state moving towards the career cluster model of organization. WASTS will provide a new structure that will align with clusters, pathways, and programs of study. We can provide the resources needed to help our membership understand the new system and the training and materials to meet the new requirements.
This is a change that we believe was greatly needed to become more effective as a state wide voice for our programs. At the WA-ACTE 2009 Summer Conference, our name change became official. We welcome your input and observations and are looking to involve all interested groups in helping implement the new system and organization.
